Repeat business by existing customers is essential to keeping your business thriving.  It is easy to see "shiny new objects" in the form of a larger account, but your current customer base, regardless how small, is how you grow your business.

If you are a service-based business, follow up with your customer after a sale or project is completed, is a must. A “thank you phone call to find out if he or she is pleased with your product or service will prove that your business always keeps the customer in mind.

Newsletters are a great tool to keep your customers informed of what you are doing for them.  The point is to let your customers know what you have done and are doing; keep them intrigues.  What steps have you taken to you go above and beyond in customer experience/service?

Handwritten notes are a nice personal touch to let them know you were thinking about them because you just got XYZ in the store or that their name popped in your mind and you wanted to reach out.  Keeping them in the loop of knowing they are still valued will go a long way in possibly enticing them to purchase from you again soon.  The same goes if you were to bump into an old customer somewhere.  Follow up with a handwritten note to tell them how nice it was to see them.

Everyone always likes to be remembered on their special day whether it is a birthday, anniversary, or even the holidays. It doesn’t have to be extravagant or expensive, just small tokens of appreciation.

If you are reading an article or see something you remembered a customer wanted or was looking for, drop them a line to let them you what you found.  This little touch shows you were in tune during your conversation and cared about their search.

As you can see, there are many ways to stay in constant contact with your existing customers. The ideas listed are just a few ways you are able to stay connected, but with a little imagination, you will find even more ways to maintain your lasting relationship with your clients or customers.
